Umbrella B.O.W Files: Zombie Dog

Classification
Accidental B.O.W.: "Zombie Dog"
Base Organism: Doberman Pinscher

Kingdom: Animalia

Phylum: Chordata

Class: Mammalia

Order: Carnivora

Family: Canidae

Genus: Canis

Species: C. lupus

Subspecies: C. familiaris

TraitLength: 60 - 70 cm (approx)

The secondary infected variation of the "Cerberus", dogs which have been infected with the t-virus. Despite not being developed as B.O.W.s, they possess roughly the same features and combat abilities.

History

On May 14, the first actual "Zombie Dogs" escaped their confinement at the Arklay Laboratory into the Arklay Mountains. These dogs were not test subjects for the t-virus, but became infected after eating contaminated food. Like the Cerberus, they were originally military-trained dogs, so they possessed naturally high combat abilities and were indistinguishable from their B.O.W. counterparts.

Raccoon City Incident (Sep., 1998)

During the Raccoon City incident, countless dogs became infected with the t-virus and began to run amok in the city. Most of them were pets, but among them were the Raccoon City Police Department's highly trained Doberman police dogs, which became infected after eating contaminated food, breaking free from their kennels on September 29. Unlike the Cerberus, these dogs have not received military training and are therefore not as strong as their B.O.W. counterpart. However, they had undergone police training to be more effective in apprehending criminals, still making their attack power and combat ability following infection is still considerably high while retaining the ability to corner a target gained through their training.

Sheena Island Incident (Nov., 1998)

Similar to the outbreak in Raccoon City, the t-virus leak on Sheena Island in November 1998 caused the island's countless number of Doberman pinscher sentry and guard dogs to become infected, running wild among the city and killing many citizens. Like the dogs in Raccoon City, these subjects did not receive military or police training and are therefore weaker than their B.O.W. and Raccoon City counterparts.

Rockfort Island Incident (Dec., 1998)

During the attack on Rockfort Island on December 27, 1998, the island's guard dogs which had been bred and trained to become either police or military canines and placed to defend the prison detention center and Ashford palace were all infected with the t-virus after feasting on contaminated corpses and drinking contaminated rain water. Unlike other Zombie Dog cases, these dogs only show skin decay whilst muscle degradation is virtually non-existent. This is due to the physical strength they acquired in their lives as military dogs, making them the strongest type of Zombie Dog with little difference to the Cerberus B.O.W.

Attributes

The attributes, capabilities and features of the Zombie Dog are all identical to their B.O.W. counterpart; "Cerberus". However, Cerberus B.O.W.s are generally stronger than Zombie Dogs, as Cerberus are only developed on dogs which have received first-class military training.

Umbrella B.O.W Files: V-ACT "Crimson Head"

Classification

Bio-Organic Weapon Model: Crimson Head
Original Organism: Human
Purpose: Evolutionary

When a zombie infected with a certain strain of the t-Virus has been incapacitated for some time, a process occurs in which the t-Virus will begin to run rampant throughout its systems, initiating a system known as V-ACT, more commonly known as a Crimson Head due to the color of its skin when in this state.

Biology

When V-ACT occurs, the heart begins pumping at an alarming rate, causing noticeable blood seepage in the skin and giving it a crimson shade of red. The subject's fingers and toes develop sharp claws and an increased muscle mass and movement speed. The subject's level of aggression also increases greatly from that of the typical zombie. When zombies become Crimson Heads, virtually nothing will stop it from pursuing its prey, making these creatures extremely dangerous.

The First Crimson Head: Crimson Head Prototype 1

According to Umbrella Research notes via V-ACT file, the first Crimson Head via Crimson Head Prototype 1 that was produced, was a prototype B.O.W. in a dormant state that was reconstructed by the t-Virus. When it finally became active, it killed many researchers during its observation. Umbrella Researchers were forced to have the creature put into a dormant state again (since disposing of this specimen was not an option), isolating and concealing it in the backyard cemetery of the Spencer Mansion.

Attack Patterns

A Crimson Head will "play dead" sometimes (much like their zombie predecessors) until their prey walks near it. It will then lunge quickly to stand. A Crimson Head attacks with force, running after its prey. It runs in a posture comparable to the Hunter α, though obviously unrelated - the posture is likely due to decomposition. It has been known to even kill fellow zombies and other creatures that get in the way between it and its prey. When it gets the chance, it will swipe with its large claws, causing heavy damage. It will sometimes even bite, causing minor injury. Crimson Heads can also withstand more damage from some
firearms than a normal zombie.

In Raccoon City

The V-ACT were seen during the Raccoon City Incident. Evidence supported in File: Operation Raccoon City.

V-ACT "Crimson Head" Notes

A zombie that has undergone a sudden mutation, bringing with it a ferociousness surpassing that of a standard zombie. The mutation process requires that the zombie first be incapacitated.

At this time, the creature's body tissue is reconstructed at the cellular level resulting in renewed activity as well as the tell-tale reddish color that gives the Crimson Head its name. It possesses long, sharp claws and relentlessly pursues victims with a speed unseen in other zombies.

Umbrella B.O.W Files: Leech Zombie

Classification

Accidental B.O.W: "Leech Zombie"
Base Organism
: Human / Leeches

The Leech Zombie or "Leech Man" was a B.O.W. that appeared in Raccoon City during the biohazard caused by the t-virus in September 1998. It is a human corpse controlled by a mass of leeches.

History

The creature appeared in Raccoon General Hospital, where a member of staff was taken over by a mass of leeches which then began to control his body. The leeches then passed onto a different host, a doctor named Hursh.(It is unknown how many Leech Zombies there had ever been, though there had been at least two. At the time that a small group of survivors entered the Hospital to obtain medicine and healing items, at least one existed.)
Eventually, the leeches were killed after being lured into a high-temperature room.

Attributes

The Leech Zombie was extremely nimble, and was able to crawl through the hospital's ventilation system allowing it to appear in almost any section in order to reach prey. After catching prey it would begin to suck their blood. It had only minor intelligence and would ignore prey in favor of more readily available sources of blood. Though it was essentially just a cadaver with leeches, the Leech zombie was significantly stronger as any normal zombie. Leech zombies should not be confused with the Mimicry Marcus, which are individual masses of leeches who assume a humanoid shape.

Umbrella B.O.W Files: Botanic Zombie

Classification
Secondary Infection Bio-Organic Weapon: "Botanic Zombie"

Base Organism: Human & Plant

The "Botanic Zombie" or sometimes called the "Green Zombie was a mistaken made B.O.W that seen during the Raccoon City Incident. It was the result of an ordinary zombie that had been consumed by T-virus infected plantae. The development of both creatures is somewhat unique, with the plant using the zombie as a means to propagate itself. A symbiotic relationship exists between the plant and the host body, with the body utilizing the plants' poison as an effective weapon.

Umbrella B.O.W Files: Tyrant (T-002 Type)

      Classification

      B.O.W. Model: "Tyrant (T-002 Type)"
      Base Organism: Human

Tyrant (T-002 Type) (dev. code: "T-002") was the second prototype Tyrant developed by the Umbrella Corporation at the Arklay Laboratory. A "fighting biological weapon", it was the result of continuous research using data collected from the Proto Tyrant (T-001 Type) and officially dubbed the "ultimate life form"-- made possible through effective implementation of the t-virus on an adult male human body. It was the peak of all human-based B.O.W.s, successfully implementing its design for maximum combat prowess and effectiveness on the battlefield while possessing the mental faculties and intelligence required to follow orders, while also being extremely
      History

      Development

The T-002 was the second of the first two Tyrant models created in the 1990s. The T-002 was created sometime following the failure of the Proto Tyrant by the Arklay B.O.W. research team initially led by William Birkin. Another clone of Sergei Vladimir was used as the test subject and was injected with the t-virus variant needed to create Tyrants and placed in a pod filled with a liquid solution which helps the t-virus infected cells to propagate to a suitable level. Using the data collected from the Proto Tyrant, they were able to significantly refine the T-002 and correct any mistakes made during the original prototype's creation, ensuring that the t-virus variant did not erode the subject and preserved a sufficient level of intelligence for carrying out orders. At the time, the T-002 was considered to be the pinnacle of Umbrella's B.O.W. program. To commemorate its success after an experiment which displayed its extremely powerful combat abilities, offensive disposition and brutal behaviour, it was officially christened "Tyrant" after the virus which created it, using the initial form of the t-virus as a symbol of the power it exhibits.
The T-002 was developed for years alongside the T-A.L.O.S. prototype by the Arklay research team, even after William Birkin had long since transferred from the facility and Umbrella had begun development of the superior Tyrant T-103 Type, which was based on the T-002. Albert Wesker continued participating in the Tyrant's development as an advisor researcher. While almost complete and considered for mass production by July 1998, there were still issues with the T-002's control mechanism and some areas still in need of improvement, which made live field combat data against veteran soldiers necessary for any further improvements. It was instead deemed obsolete in favour of the smaller and improved T-103 type.

      Data Acquisition (Jul. 24, 1998)

Soon after the outbreak of the t-virus in the Arklay Laboratory in May, Umbrella issued an order known as the "X-DAY" procedure to organize a top-secret combat test against the Special Forces S.T.A.R.S. teams in order to catalog the Tyrant's incredible capabilities. The order was to collect the combat data from the T-002 and then destroy the subject along with the facility, due to the already superior T-103 model which simply required the data of the T-002 for further improvements.

Albert Wesker also had his own plans for the Tyrant. It was his intention to steal the Tyrant and its combat data and turn them over to a rival company of Umbrella known as 'The 3rd Organization' as a gift, whilst using its data as an incentive to promote the sale. However, Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine managed to defeat the Tyrant, blowing it to pieces with a rocket launcher dropped by Brad Vickers. This defeat dealt a major blow to Wesker's pride and reputation in the rival company and sparked the intense hatred and rivalry between himself and S.T.A.R.S.

The S.T.A.R.S. opponents were highly skilled and a large amount of data far beyond what was anticipated was collected, bringing Umbrella much closer to the completion of the Tyrant B.O.W. and eventually completing the goal of Tyrant mass production in the form of the refined T-103 line. Following the Mansion Incident, every subsequent Tyrant model was based on the data collected from the T-002.

      Attributes

The T-002 boasts superior capabilities and durability in combat, as well as higher intelligence over the prototype which allowed it to adhere to basic commands. Its main method of attack was the use of the bone-protruding claws on its left arm. It can break through several layers of concrete and leap great heights, while also possessing unmatched speed which makes it difficult for human targets to escape or deal damage to the Tyrant.

      S. Tyrant

Like other Tyrant models, the T-002 was equipped with a power limiter. If it senses that its life is in danger, it would disengage its limiter. Once removed, the Tyrant would undergo a mutation which would increase its overall power and durability in combat. This form is dubbed "S. Tyrant" (short for "Super Tyrant"). The biggest physical change is an overall expansion of blood vessels, leading to a generally red-fleshed complexion and increased attack power and defensive capabilities. The red-fleshed Tyrant's considerable brutality, agility and attack power made it an ideal B.O.W. deserving of its name.

EXCERPT FROM NE-BETA PARASITE LABORATORY TESTS (CODENAME: NE-Β)

      DAY 36

I will be taking over this record from today as the Doctor was
      unfortunately killed this morning.
The parasite and specimen itself were finally killed today as well. The
method was simple: whilst it fed on a fresh body (the unfortunate
Doctor), we attacked the parasite itself from behind. Concentrated fire
killed it, at which point the exhausted specimen body was also
      destroyed.
Obviously this is just the start of our studies.

      Umbrella Files: Alexia Ashford

       Personal Data
      Date of Birth: 1971
Date of Death: Dec 28, 1998
      Gender: Female
      Height: 175 cm
      Weight: 54.3 kg
      Blood Type: Unknown
      Nationality: British
      Ethnicity: Caucasian

Alexia Ashford was a brilliant scientist and the younger twin sister of Alfred Ashford and the successful result of the "CODE:Veronica Project" initiated by Alexander Ashford. She was a clone of Veronica Ashford and considered to be her reincarnation, inheriting her beauty and even surpassing her in intelligence, factors which reminded others of Veronica. To others, she is known as the creator of the t-Veronica virus. As a result of her artificial birth Alexia was actually born with a cold and callous personality and displayed very little humanity, caring only for her own prosperity and the realization of her ambitions.

      History

      Conception and Early Life (1971-1981)

Born after her older twin brother Alfred in 1971. She was created by using Veronica's genetic material extracted from her preserved mummified body located in the Ashford manor in England. The inherited gene which determined her intelligence was artificially adjusted by Alexander to display the maximum level of intelligence. The genetic material was then implanted into a mature oocyte by Alexander and inserted into a surrogate mother. His own genetics were never incorporated during the process, meaning that Alexia and Alfred were not really his own children.

From a very early age, Alexia had unsurpassed intelligence that easily classified her as a genius. She spent her early childhood living in the underground laboratory beneath the South Pole Base with her brother Alfred, who adored her. Alexia on the other hand treated Alfred as a master would a slave. She was employed by the Umbrella Corporation as chief researcher of the company's laboratory in Germany at the age of 9. On July 27, 1981, at  the age of 10, Alexia graduated from a famous university with the honor of being valedictorian. She was once again greeted with open arms by Umbrella and offered a position as chief researcher at the Umbrella South Pole Base where Alexander was director. Accepting the position, Alexia surprised the other Umbrella researchers as she began accelerating the Ashford family's research into the t-virus while also conducting other research into a different virus.
      t-Veronica Virus (1981-1983)

During her research, Alexia had discovered the remains of an ancient virus in the DNA of a queen ant. By combining this DNA harboring the ancient virus with the Progenitor virus and incorporating plant DNA, Alexia succeeded in developing a brand new artificial viral strain which she named the "t-Veronica virus". From the outset, Alexia cared only for her own prosperity and had no intention of restoring the glory of the Ashford family, which was the purpose behind her creation. Following the creation of the new virus, Alexia dedicated most of her research to ants, whose ecosystem seemed ideal as she began harvesting plans to make the world reflect this ecosystem on a global scale, with herself as the "queen ant". During her experiments, she administered the premature virus to ants and eventually caused the creation of a giant plant creature known as the "Alexia Pod". The "Queen" created with the virus would be able to control subordinate creatures infected with the virus, forming a "Veronica Ecosystem" resembling an anthill which Alexia sought to be the queen of.

In early 1983 as her research reached a crucial stage, she discovered the secret behind her birth that was orchestrated by her incompetent "father". On March 3, she then used Alexander as the first human test subject for the t-Veronica virus, and noted how it caused a rapid change in his cells and caused a serious decay of his brain cells and body flesh. The experiment was a failure and the twins sealed Alexander in an underground dungeon cell beneath the South Pole Base, but the experiment opened new avenues for Alexia's research. 5 She needed a way to control the virus to achieve her goal. She discovered that the virus could be "controlled" by allowing to adapt to the host's body via cryogenically freezing the host. Alexia decided to use herself as the test subject and injected the virus into her own body, freezing herself for 15 years in order to allow her body to adapt to her body. She entrusted the protection of her capsule to Alfred. 6 Her reference to Alfred as a soldier ant was one of the causes of his infatuation with military elements. She was announced to have died during an accident during an experiment with the t-Veronica virus.
      Awakening (Dec., 28, 1998)

Alexia was re-awakened 15 years later, right before the death of her brother Alfred. As her body had perfectly fused with the t-Veronica virus, she retained her intelligence and reasoning ability and was completely without harmful mutation. As the "queen ant" of the t-Veronica ecosystem, Alexia had a symbiotic relationship with the Alexia Pod creature, which was now controlled by her and which would act only under the orders of its master, thus Alexia was able to control the entire South Pole facility through its tentacles which were able to spread and come out anywhere from the ground. Alexia also had the ability of evolution, after fusing with the pod, she could brood and release numbers of soldier ants and other unknown organisms which were her "babies". When the bottom base of the pod received heavy damage, Alexia would fly to the sky and mutate into a 3rd form.

Alexia attacked the snow mobile used by Claire Redfield and Steve Burnside, preventing their escape and preparing to use them as test subjects with the t-Veronica virus extracted from her body post-cold sleep (known as the "t-Alexia" strain). While Claire was saved by Chris Redfield, Steve was injected with the refined virus and transformed into a gruesome monster. Shortly thereafter, Alexia was confronted by Albert Wesker who sought a sample of the virus from her body. Alexia mutated, combusting into flames, and attacked Wesker. Despite the almost even match between the two, Wesker opted to use Chris to go into combat against Alexia. While Alexia was defeated by Chris, she stood up once more.

Finally, Alexia cornered the Redfield siblings, and directly entered combat with Chris who managed to persevere through her numerous mutations. Finally, Alexia was destroyed with the use of the Linear Launcher developed by Alexander.

      Mutations

      ALEXIA FIRST FORM
The initial mutated form after the long-term virus fusion, the power of the t-Veronica virus was completely unleashed. The blood in her body began to burn when it came into contact with air and turned into flames. Except for the left side of her face and a small part of her body, a special botanic skin was covering Alexia. This skin held extreme hardness; most gun fire could not harm her at all.

      ALEXIA SECOND FORM

The form after fusing with the Alexia Pod, a large oviduct was at the bottom of the pod. Though she could not move, she used the tentacles, soldier ants and her "babies" released from the oviduct to attack her enemies.

      ALEXIA THIRD FORM

The form after pulling the oviduct out of the pod, she now had the ability to fly. In this form, Alexia was able to move very fast and used her blood fire to attack. Although she represented a queen ant, this form actually closely resembled a dragonfly.

EXCERPT FROM NE-BETA PARASITE LABORATORY TESTS (CODENAME: NE-Β)

      DAY 28

The more the NE-Beta Parasite is studied, the more impressive it becomes
on every level. Today showed that the parasite is doing much more than
just ‘driving’ the specimen – it has made it much tougher than it ever
      was before.

We decided on a course of action to remove the parasite from the zombie.
We believed the most obvious course was to attempt to destroy the
zombie’s legs, leaving the parasite host with no method of locomotion.

It soon became clear however that the specimen was now almost completely
impervious to damage! Small arms fire, machine guns, flamethrowers and
even a frag grenade had minimal effect on the host as well as the
parasite, which continued to search for ways to get its pincers on its
      attackers.

During today’s activities we lost two more security guards and another
research aid – but they were sacrifices worth making as they revealed
another offensive weapon the “parasite zombie” has at its disposal.

As these three entered the cell, the parasite began spraying a strange
substance onto them – an acrid bile that instantly slowed their progress
as they began coughing and gasping for air. With its perceived threat
incapacitated it was only a matter of seconds before the unfortunate
      trio lay dead.

This spray attack also had another characteristic however. We noticed
that while the three guinea pigs were covered in the bile, all of our
test subjects in nearby holding areas became extremely agitated,
throwing themselves against the wall closest to the bile-covered trio in
order to break through and get to them. It was also noted by some of my
colleagues that they did this with an urgency and strength not usually
      noted.

It seems that this substance, whatever it proves to be, has some kind of
stimulating effect on other B.O.W.s and is of course something we need
      to study further.

      Umbrella B.O.W Files: Web Spinner

       Classification
      B.O.W. Model: "Web Spinner"
      Base Organism: Unknown (various)
      Category: Arachnid / Tarantula
      Kingdom: Animalia
      Phylum: Arthropoda
      Class: Arachnida
      Order: Araneae
      Suborder: Mygalomorphae
      Family: Theraphosidae
      Subfamily: Ornithoctoninae
      Genus: Haplopelma
      Species: ???
      Traits
      Length: 200-300cm
      Height: 60cm
      Width [including legs]: 200cm

The "Web Spinner" is a B.O.W. based on large-size venomous spiders, developed by the Umbrella Corporation during early experiments with the t-virus in an attempt to find a viable B.O.W. base.

      History

The Web Spinner was an early B.O.W. that was developed after researchers at the Arklay Laboratory noted the dramatic growth effects of the t-virus on regular spiders accidentally infected with it. After this discovery was made the Arklay B.O.W. research team shifted its focus to naturally larger spiders and the effects the virus would have upon a tarantula. It was under consideration as a B.O.W. due to its movement capabilities which allowed it to reach virtually anywhere, making it an excellent weapon. However their limited intelligence and inability to understand commands over it drastically reduced their effectiveness as a weapon.

A mutated form of the Web Spinner known as the "Black Tiger" based on red-kneed tarantulas was also recorded. A cousin of the Web Spinner optimized for hot and humid environments was later developed by Umbrella based on a South American jumping spider; the Jumping Maneater. "Wild" Web Spinners can be found in the form of the Giant Spider - since the virus exhibits great stability and adaptability between most spider species, there is very little difference.

      Attributes
Web Spinners showed great potential as a B.O.W. due to their natural spider mobility, being able to climb on walls and ceilings with ease and attack with their acidic venom. This mobility also allowed it to disperse the t-virus to places other creatures cannot, and over a wider radius. However their lack of intelligence and capacity to follow orders greatly limited their potential, rendering them almost useless as weapons due to their inability to adhere to commands. Their primary method of attack is the use of their highly acidic venom,
as the virus ironically took away their ability to spin webs.

EXCERPT FROM NE-BETA PARASITE LABORATORY TESTS (CODENAME: NE-β)

      DAY 22
Again the parasite has surprised us.
One of our armed security men accompanied one of my colleagues into the
parasite’s cell to retrieve some tissue samples. What happened next
shocked us all. The parasite-humanoid appeared to wait until they were a
couple of steps into the cell before it made an aggressive maneuver
      towards them – almost running.

Before the security guard had chance to

react, the parasitically-bonded specimen had lifted him off his feet and
      hurled him against the bars.
My colleague was just as unfortunate, as the parasite’s pincers tore the
top half of her body from the bottom.
Unbelievable. The “parasite zombie” was demonstrably faster and stronger
than its zombie host or the parasite itself.
Tomorrow we shall try to remove the parasite from the zombie to
understand how it can animate the specimen so effectively.

      Umbrella B.O.W Files: Zombies

      Loading Data…

      Classification

      B.O.W. Model: “Zombie” (various types)
      Base Organism: Human

A “zombie” is the direct result of a human being exposed to the t-virus, whether through direct infection or secondary exposure. (contaminated water supply or via bites and scratches from a virus carrier). The researchers at Umbrella Pharmaceutical, Inc. called them “zombies” due to their slow pace, mindless nature, similarity to the modern-day concept of a zombie in 20th century cinema, and the fact that they are walking dead corpses. Like their horror film counterparts, zombies spread the virus through biting and are walking corpses, due to the fact that individuals die before turning into zombies.

      History

Discovered during the development stages of the t-virus in 1981 after the virus finally became stable enough to produce biological weapons for the staff at the Arklay Research Facility, zombies are a common sight during an outbreak of the t-virus due to the high population concentration of human beings in the contamination zones. Secondary infection leading to zombification is usually brought on by an infected water source or contact with virus-carrying rodents such as rats or mice, but there have also been records of the virus being carried by air depending on the strain of the t-virus in question. As well as this, creatures infected with the virus generally have the ability to infect others - a trait most exhibited in fact by zombies.

Whilst not directly an Umbrella Pharmaceutical B.O.W. in most cases, human experimentation has been vital in the development of viruses and many intentional zombies were created and disposed of to produce viable data. Due to the weapons development testing, these zombies are generally stronger than secondary infected specimens and are commonly dubbed “Naked Zombies”, due to their distinct lack of clothing.

      Raccoon City Incident

The first public outbreak of zombies occurred in the American mid-western town of Raccoon City. Following the mansion incident, the viral outbreak which occurred at the Arklay Research Facility continued to slowly leak into the city, with creatures being reported and rumours of a “cannibal disease” running rampant. Finally, on September 23, 1998, a large quantity of the t-virus was leaked in the city sewers following a failed attempt by Umbrella Special Forces to retrieve the G-virus, and the rodent population quickly began spreading the infection throughout the city. The next day, the outbreak hit a fever-pitch at a local football game in the city. Spectators from both in and outside of the city were present, and a single zombie eventually sparked a “riot” at the game. From there, the infection spread like wildfire. Thus, the first mass public outbreak and appearance of zombies occurred. Seizing the opportunity, Umbrella deployed its U.B.C.S. force to combat the infected, with its Monitors conducting a full investigation on them. The city was quarantined by the National Guard and on October 1, the infection was eradicated after the US government launched an experimental warhead into the city.

      Harvardville Incident
The second public outbreak of the t-virus also occurred in a mid-western town. In a demonstration by WilPharma chief researcher Frederic Downing to General Miguel Grandé, an Atmos Airlines plane was contaminated with the virus. Meanwhile, Downing’s “partner”, Curtis Miller, infected Harvardville Airport with the virus, leading to a sudden outbreak at 3:00pm. The infection was quickly contained, but Miller threatened to infect other major US cities if his demands were not met. Following the deployment of the Marines and the National Guard, the infection was eradicated completely until the Air Dome Research Facility became another contamination zone. This site was also cleansed however due to the facility’s internal anti-biohazard procedures.

Other isolated outbreaks occurred in other locations all over the world, such as Rockfort Island and the Umbrella Antarctic Base. The age of bioterrorism also opened the floodgates to countless other outbreaks throughout the globe, and others were caused accidentally such as the outbreak in India caused by the clinical testing conducted by WilPharma. Zombies are the most common by-product of a t-virus outbreak and as such, are dealt with carefully by state and local law enforcement and government agencies following the Raccoon City and Harvardville incidents. The B.S.A.A. maintains countermeasure instructions against zombies in paragraphs 13 to 17 of combat training file “t-15”.

      Attributes
Once infected, humans will begin to mutate and several effects will take place. Firstly, the host’s skin tissue begins to rot and blood congeals over the skin. Secondly, muscle fiber deteriorates and the virus destroys the subject’s brain cells which contain memory completely, leaving zombies with no intelligence and shutting down all functions outside of the autonomic nervous system, leaving them with the complete paralysis of pain sensations. The virus causes a dramatic spike in metabolism, leaving it constantly activated. The result is a constant state of hunger and starvation, driving the zombie’s only remaining instinct; to eat. Another result of this enhanced metabolism is immense strength and vitality, making zombies generally stronger than normal people despite the decay in muscle tissue. This metabolism is also the cause of the itching sensation reported by infectees prior to death.

The most striking feature of a zombie is their insatiable hunger and ravenous behaviour, their primary method of attack is to feast upon the flesh of the living or dead. Human flesh is their primary food source, as it contains the high levels of energy necessary to sustain their tremendous metabolism. Highly acidic gastric acid is stored within the stomach in order to efficiently absorb consumed human flesh and can also be vomited to attack living humans.

They are virtually immortal, and can only be killed by being shot directly in the head. They are not deterred by inconsequential damage and will continue their search for food despite the loss of limbs or even the lower half of their body. Assuming they haven’t degraded too much, some zombies can manage to quickly shuffle towards their prey faster than normal. Depending on the background of the zombie, such as the trainees on Rockfort Island, there are variations in the level of degradation of muscle tissue. They are highly resistant to fire, although dousing them completely in fuel or kerosene and setting them alight can kill them outright.

“Crawling zombies” is the term commonly associated with zombies whose muscle tissue has degenerated to the point where they cannot move by themselves, and have resorted to crawling along the ground to try and reach prey. They are similar to zombies that have had their legs or mid-sections blown off, so they are classified together. “Lying zombies” on the other hand are zombies that have no energy and are on the verge of death. These zombies in particular are the ones likely to enter the “Licker” transformation. “Playing dead zombies” are similar to lying zombies, but are actually not on the verge of death, merely waiting for prey to pass by before striking.
Zombies also maintain some visage of their former life due to their physical features, such as uniform, indicating their former occupations and even level of muscle degradation which can indicate their former level of fitness.

      Mutations

      Crimson Head

If a zombie infected with a particular strain of the virus cultured from the “Crimson Head Prototype 1” is incapacitated through the likes of repeated gunfire, they will undergo the “V-ACT” process while in their incapacitated state and re-awaken as a “Crimson Head” some matter of time later. This mutation enhances them beyond their average abilities, making them far deadlier than normal. The only way to prevent this from occuring is by shooting them in the head, complete removal of the head or the complete incineration of the zombie.

      Licker

Without an appropriate food source (human flesh), zombies will eventually resort to feasting on the flesh of other creatures and eventually, cannibalism. If this act does not sustain them or their food sources deplete, they will eventually die off, but there are a few whose cells will undergo an extreme mutation due to the t-virus. This mutation eventually leads to the birth of a new creature; the “Licker”. It is believed that this mutation has some connection to the V-ACT process, but with an alternative outcome due to the strain of the virus used.

      Variations

      Researcher Zombie
These zombies are originally Umbrella researchers studying viruses who have since become infected with the viruses themselves. Primarily, they are present in almost every Umbrella facility which has become subject to contamination of the virus. In particular, these include the Arklay Research Facility and Umbrella Antarctic Base.

      Forest Zombie
During the Mansion Incident, S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team member Forest Speyer was attacked and subsequently infected with the t-virus, becoming a zombie soon after.

      Edward Zombie
After being attacked by monsters in Raccoon Forest on July 23 and ending up in the Ecliptic Express, Edward Dewey of the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team succumbed to the effects of the t-virus and became a zombie, attacking Rebecca Chambers.

      Naked Zombie
The term attributed to zombies used for t-virus research experiments, first documented in the Arklay Research Facility. They are easily distinguished by their naked appearance and distinct lack of deterioration in comparison to other zombies.

      Town Zombie
The term applied to the citizens of Raccoon City during the t-virus outbreak. This type also includes many from outside of the city as well, as many residents from another town were present in the city for a football game at the time of the outbreak.

      Police Zombie
The term used to describe officers of the Raccoon City Police Department who were infected with the t-virus during the Raccoon City incident. Their numbers are plentiful due to even off-duty officers being mobilized to quell the riots and chaos in the city. They are easily distinguishable by their summer uniforms.

      Female Zombie
The term used for any female that has become a zombie.

      Improved Zombie
Stronger zombies that are the products of weapons development testing in the underground research facility beneath Raccoon City. Similar to naked zombies but with higher levels of visible degradation. They are the base test subjects for the “Evolved Licker” B.O.W.

      Prisoner Zombie
Prisoners on Rockfort Island’s prison complex who were infected with the t-virus. They are distinguished from other zombies by their green prisoner uniforms and shaved heads.

        Graveyard Zombie
Originally prisoners that were declared dead on Rockfort Island. Following the t-virus outbreak, rainwater helped the virus penetrate deep into the soil underground where they were buried, infecting the corpses and allowing them to mutate.

      Doctor Zombie
Originally the anatomist who worked in the medical room of Rockfort Island prison. This particular specimen is faster and stronger than most other zombie types, for reasons unknown.

      Wesker Subordinate Zombie
Members of the Hive/Host Capture Force that were infected with the air-transmitted t-virus on Rockfort Island. They are distinguished by their all-black combat uniform and often night-vision goggles. Some also have explosives strapped to their bodies.

      Trainee Zombie
Originally trainees of Umbrella’s Special Forces on Rockfort Island. Following the attack by H.C.F., they were infected with the air-transmitted t-virus or attacked by other infected creatures. They are generally stronger than normal zombies due to the lower level of muscle degradation thanks to their rigorous training.

      Worker Zombie
Workers originally charged with sorting and storing cargo in the Umbrella Antarctic Base, infected after the planes from Rockfort Island crashed into the facility and leaked the t-virus.

      Guard Zombie
Guards under the jurisdiction of the Ashford family that were infected with the t-virus on Rockfort Island. They provided security detail in the Ashford Palace and the prison complex.

      Villager Zombie
These zombies were inhabitants of the waterside village, Mixcoatl. They were attacked and infected by the zombies and Piranha B.O.W. released by Javier.

      Mercenary Zombie
Mercenaries originally hired by and working for Javier that were infected and turned into zombies. It’s believed that in his madness, Javier intentionally infected them and created them on purpose. They were originally part of Javier’s security force for his mansion. Some still carried explosives.

      Javier Zombie
These zombies were originally people who stood against Javier that he captured and turned into zombies. He punished them and made examples of them by injecting them with the t-virus and having them serve as “guard dogs” for his mansion. Some were placed in an artificial state of suspended animation and administered a new t-virus variant capable of inducing the V-ACT process making them faster and more ferocious but lacking the claws present on a Crimson Head. They are generally kept on chains and shackles but when an enemy is in the vicinity, they are released. They were commonly utilized by Javier as weapons of terror.

      Dam Worker Zombie
Workers who managed and maintained the Javier Dam that were infected after being washed away by the current after the water was released and subsequently attacked by Javier’s zombies.

NOTE: Zombies are not to be a confuse with the Las Plagas hosts.
